Like it (I wonder what the licencing / operating requirements would be ? I'm assuming it would be a closely regulated industry ?)

Other than that Lawyers & Solicitors seem to be pretty recession-proof !

I have setup a listings website on the AlicanteRental.com domain and it also includes the Facebook name & page and Twitter name / account.

So basically it is a business starter kit I guess... ;)

What is it you are interested in?

I have a similar dilemma. There should be some opportunities in this recession. Property would be a good area to concentrate on apart from the fact that there seems to be no liquidity in the market. On the face of it though prices are cheap. However, with the banks lending being restricted any business that relies on leverage to grow will find it tough. This means you are left with a cash flow business that does not require a huge capital outlay.

There is the usual sorts of business' that prosper in a recession e.g payday loans debt management etc but its not something I would want to get involved in.

I think you will have to see where the gaps are in your local market and try and fill them. Each area will be different with different needs that are not being serviced. I think 25k is a decent start up capital.

best of luck

I agree with Jamesd on the 'Property' idea - particularly if you are in a position to be a cash buyer - however, if you are not then the means of obtaining a loan or mortgage can be difficult. Any line of work to be explored should not only take into account your skills, qualifications and previous experience but also any other languages that you can confidently speak and the geographical location where you will be sited.
