Self Employed Help

Postby MitchTheBuilder » Wed Apr 25, 2012 10:05 am

I'm a self Employed builder and would like my 18 year old son to come and work for me. I would like to do this legally so he can pay his contributions and get entitlements etc... but am unsure how to do this. Can I employ staff as an Autonomo, or must I become an SL company in order to do this ? Or will it it be cheaper and easier for him to become an Autonomo in his own right ?

You could look into becoming an SL company (Similiar to being a ltd company in the UK) but it will have a cost to you of around 3'000 Euros in liquidity requirement, startup costs, and costs involved in suspending your Autonomo status. That would then enable you to legally employ staff.

Do you I have to be able to show that I have a minimum of 3k in my account at all times, or is this just a start up requirement. Also, are the running costs comparable to being an Autonomo ?

Don't forget that a lot of regions offer grants towards your set-up costs (Depending upon what your business is exactly, and the region you are located in), yes- it might be a long shot - but it could also be worth asking your Gestor if there is anything that you could be taking advantage of here !

Not really Mitch. I know that these grants vary from region to region and depending on the business that you in and how many local people you are hoping to employ etc... The best thing to do would be to speak with a good local Gestor or Asesor who is familiar with these things. Certainly worth you asking the question though.

I asked the question, but it is not applicable to my circumstances - it appears that I am in the wrong trade, wrong region, not employing enough staff and not investing enough money !
