Family Moving over to Spain

Postby MarionBruce » Wed Jan 12, 2011 11:59 am

My Husband and I have lived in Spain for almost 4 years and would like our daughter, who has a 3 month old baby and is on her own, to come and live with us. She is finding it hard to cope with things in the UK and would like to start again in Spain but is worried about doing this because of my grand daughter. We have lots of friends over here, but don't know anybody who has raised a family over here so don't know where to turn for advice. Where do we start ?

I don't pretend to be an expert in these matters by any means, but I gave birth to my daughter over here and can empathise with her concerns. One of the hardest things for expat parents in Spain is the lack of support from family & friends, so it seems that you and your husband are already ahead on that score.
- It is natural for her to worry about making a new start in a different country, but I can honestly say that I have never had any problem at all with regards to bringing my daughter up in Spain.

You and your daughter can read my Blogs about this by clicking the link next to my signiture - and please feel free to post any comments or questions you may have that I, or anybody else may be able to help you all with.

It might help her if you look in the local newspaper to see if there are any local Mum & Baby groups that she can go to for some help and support. There seems to be one in most towns and it helped me a lot in getting to know new people and letting my baby have the chance to play.

Thankyou to both of you for your help and advice. After weeks of persuasion, my daughter has agreed to move over here for a short while at the end of Febuary to see how she get's on. If she likes it and everything goes ok she will stay for good, if not she will move back to the UK. I expect we will both have a few more questions when they finally arrive as this is all new to the both of us.
