NIE Number for Children

I received my Residency a couple of years ago and before my son was born, and was recently told told that I need to get both residency and an NIE number for him aswell. Is this right ?

Yes, you need to get Residency for him aswell, the process is exactly the same as for adults. When I got it for my daughter they did here NIE number at the same time for no extra charge. A Child's NIE numbe starts with a " Y " as opposed to an " X " and will appear on teh Residency Documentation itself. She was never issued an official NIE number and certificate seperately as I don't believe that they do this for minors, but this may now have changed.

Yes, I agree with Jo, it is something that you will need to do sooner or later to make everything legal and official. It is quite cheap and easy to do, but I would recommend that you ask your Gestor or Asesor to help you get an appointment rather than queueing up to do this as it isn't an easy thing to do with a baby !
