Residencia - Moving House

Postby MustaphaP » Thu Jul 28, 2011 9:26 am

If I am moving house, within the same Village, do I need to change my Padron / Residencia / NIE details in any way ?

Are you asking what you are legally obliged to do, or what you should do in order to make your life easier further down the line ?

It would be interesting to know the answer to both points you make !

Most people wouldn't bother - especially if you are remaining within the same village.

Whilst Royal Decree dictates that you 'should' notify the local Commisaria of your change of address (For your NIE), most people manage perfectly well for many years without changing anything.

Bad advice, maybe, but if were me I would act on it as and when it becomes an issue.

Like others have said (and like the 'Dangerous Dog Act' Thread, and the 'Re-Registering on the Padron' Thread ) it frustrates the hell out of me when the National Government pass Royal Decrees advising the population of what they 'Must Do', only for the public to be turned away by the Town Halls because they can't be bothered to do 'their bit'.

... And then the Powers that be are surprised that there is so much confusion surrounding these issues !

What you are 'supposed to do' is inform the office that originally issued you with your NIE and Residencia of your change of address, and also inform your Ayuntamiento of the same.

As others have suggested, they probably won't do anything about it - especially as you are moving within the same town - but it might be a good idea to do the latter by e mail so you can prove that you have fulfilled your obligations in you should encounter a problem further down the line, which I doubt you would anyway.

You would be better off covering your backside here if you have tried to change things and been turned away : Write them a letter, enclosing copies of your original documents and post it to them by certified mail (Keep a copy of what you sent). It is up the them what they do with the letter and whether to act on it or not, but at least you have evidence that you have at least attempted to do this.
