Widows Pension

Postby pauline » Sat Jan 07, 2012 11:39 am

I have a friend and neighbour whose hiusband has recently passed away and she is in a bit of a mess. She needs a lot of help with practical things at the moment and has no family to rely on. I would like to help her with looking to see if she eligible for a widows pension, but don't know where to start.

Pauline, sorry for not noticing your post until now.

- The answer to the question really lies in where the Husband has made social security contributions to : In brief, if he worked in Spain and paid contributions here, and his Widow should submit an application to the INSS in Spain (this guide may help >> http://www.tumbit.com/how-to-guides/art ... spain.html )

- However, if he never worked or paid SS in Spain, then his Widow should speak with the Pensions Service in the UK (this guide may help >> http://www.tumbit.com/how-to-guides/art ... spain.html )

Thankyou. As far as I am aware he has paid his contributions in both Spain and the UK so will take a look at both of the links you have kindly provided.

It might be too soon for her to be asking herself these questions, but it would also help for her to have a clear idea whether she intends to stay in Spain or to return to the UK.
