Businesses that offer poor standards of customer service are regularly outed on the various expat forums that there are out there - But what about those that offer good service ? Here's your chance to sing somebodies praises or ask for recommendations

Good Service ? Ha Ha Ha !

Postby Tufty » Fri Oct 28, 2011 9:01 am

Do you think we should infer anything from the fact that this Forum Topic is a lot skinnier than the other ones ? - Is 'Good service' that much of a rare thing here in Spain ?

Cynical, no. Speaking from many years of experience, yes.

No bad experience in particular, I just feel from a number of separate experiences that the whole concept of customer service is unknown in Spain.

In many cases and in mnay shops it is hard work even getting as far as being offered something that you actually want to spend your money on !

Sadly I believe the Spanish citizens have a slight Stockholm Syndrome. Their government is abusing them and they think that that is how it should be... possibly still a spinoff from the Franco dictatorship days.

I say it is time for a "Spanish Spring"...

"Stockholme Syndrome" : I like that - so true !

I have a Spanish friend who studied at Uni in the UK for 3 years before returning to Spain to live. Just like reformed smokers are the worst for criticising smokey envirnoments, she goes totally ballistic whenever she receives poor customer service in Spain and is forever lecturing shop assistants and customer services departments who couldn't really care less.

I am not sure it is a case of not caring or being lazy, I think they simply don't know any better, and are firmly entrenched in the idea that the governement will take of everyting. All that is required of them is to be present.
I have seen lawyers do that, and expect big sums of money for the pleasure, just because that is how it is (or was).

I have an estate agent friend who is always amazed at how a spanish client goes to look at an apartment, and as long as it has the right amount of bedrooms and bathrooms, they take it! Little consideration of further niceties or comfort.

Possibly it is us who are spoilt??? ;) ;)
