As Murcia grows, so do the attractions! It has been announced that Paramount Theme Park will open in 2015...

Will it actually ever open ?

Postby MickeyB » Sat Sep 17, 2011 9:13 am

Call me sceptical, but other American theme parks in Europe have failed. This, combined with the way that the global economy (moreseo in Spain) has been performing since the plans were announced, leaves me wondering if it could - or even should - be opened.

It is a big risk. Anytime you open a new park, no matter how well thought out and planned, you are taking a risk. Yes, the park has the Paramount name the is known worldwide. But look at the state of the worldwide economy. Things aren't exactly great. It seems to me (and I could be wrong, this is just my opinion) they are planning it as a big resort in vain of the Disney and Universal parks and resorts that are world known and very popular. Opening a new resort in this economy, while competing to make a name for itself is a risk. It doesn't matter how many investors you have. That doesn't equal success.

Now I may sound a little against this park, which is far from the truth. I'm very excited to see what Paramount comes up with and if I could have it my way I would be there opening day. I thinks it's just way premature to say it will be a sure fire success when it opens. We all will have to wait and see

Two words : " Arab Investment "

The project seems to have been well thought, out and seems to have learned from other European them park failures - it is catering for business delegates and other year-round visitors in addition to theme park tourists, it has a lot of on-site facilities, and some investment in infrastructure. It also has the ability to expand in future years if needs be.

I'm inclined to agree with Mr. G - if this was a public project financed by the state I'm sure that the plug would have been pulled many month ago, however, given that it is a private project and that the region have a vested interest in it via it's links to Corvera airport, I'm pretty certain it can not be allowed to fail.

So the general consensus here is that the Murcia park won´t go the way of Dubai and Shanghai then ?

I am a little too old for theme parks myself, but I expect that my grandchildren would be interested when they visit. Although I have little interest, I am convinced that it would be very good for the economy of Murcia and that it will go ahead and be a success. However, does the country really then need another new theme park in Mallorca AND Malaga aswell ?

Why are people incapable of realising that NOTHING is likely to happen here UNTIL or UNLESS Premursa can come up with the investors and finances ? - Jesus Samper has openly said he doesn´t have it yet ! - Construction was originally scheduled to start in March of next year but, quite wisely, the go-ahead will not be given until he can prove he has the funding.
My money is on him failing miserably to do this !

Providing the final signing of the deeds goes ahed on the 6th Feb - and I can't see why it shouldn't - then surely the park is on the home straight, investors will be more forthcoming and the region will provide more support to ensure that it simply can not fail ?

You seem pretty sure that there are plenty of investors out there that will even be willing to invest in the park, even if the legal obstacles can be overcome. I have yet to hear of any names of any interested parties mentioned.
