Will Rajoy actually be any good for the future of Spain or not ?

I don´t pay a lot of attention to Spanish (National) Politics, but from what I understand Spain is in for a hard time - regardless of who is in power, and there is not much either party would be able to do about it.

He's kind of in the same place as Cameron was in the Uk 18 months ago : He's inherited a crap economy and an feeling of distrust towards all politicians and he knows that he will have to make some pretty unpopular decisions if he is to stand any chance of getting the country on his feet again. And what's more, he is probably well aware that this will bring criticism from his own supporters and his own party, let alone the opposition !

Let's wait and see what happens after the cabinet meeting later this week - there has got to be either tax increases or cuts to public services (or both !)

Whether you agree with his policies or not, the guy is never going to be anywhere close to being popular. The best he can hope is for people to look back in ten years time and agree that he made some drastic cuts and reforms at the time, but succeeded in getting the country back on it's feet again.
