Pregnancy Scans

Hi ! Can anyone please tell me when the pregnancy scans are usually done and do I need to make an appointment with the Hospital ar will the Midwife do all this for me ? Thankyou

Each region sets it´s own agenda with regards to pregnancy and maternity requirements / schedules etc... so you would be better off asking a friend who has gone through the same thing recently (and in the same area), or by asking you local health centre.
Even though I had private healthcare, I went through the whole process with the Valencian State System (couldn´t have gone any better) and had scans at 12, 20 & 32 weeks. Like I say, that will possibly differ from area to area, so don´t just assume that you will automatically have the same.

Like Jo says, it can vary quite a lot - and continues to vary after the birth with all vaccine dates etc... You would better speaking with your local midwife or locals Mum´s group rather than asking on forums as the answers you will get will possibly differ quite a bit.

I should have also said that it will differ if you are in the private system as opposed to the state system. Some private Hospitals seen to do a scan at almost every other routine check up.

Thankyou for all your advice - I am sure I will be popping back in for a few words of reassurance. I am currently living in Almeria and feeling a bit isolated with most of my friends and family being back in the UK when I could do with their help the most !
