UK car, UK trailer.....help!

Postby matty » Thu Mar 29, 2012 11:05 am

Looking at various websites I seem to be seeing different information, and I’m slightly confused…..

I will be travelling to Spain next week to pick up two racing cars using a Transit and trailer. I will arrive in Spain on Wednesday and all being well leave either the same day or Thursday. Can someone shed some light on any rules and regs I will need to follow, speed limits etc.

Thanks in advance

Just double checking - Is this a UK registered Van and UK registered trailer ? - Also, what size trailer ?

Hi

Yes UK registered car and trailer, biggish trailer (not sure on dimensions), will fit two race cars in, so I'm guessing a 2500-3500kgs trailer.

Cheers

The speed limits for towing a tailer in Spain is 80kph / 50 mph on DualCarriages & Motorways, 70kph / 40 mph on all other roads.

If the combined length of your vehicle & trailer will be longer than 12mt you need to have 2 yellow (with a red outline) reflective stickers on the back of the vehicle. The dimensions of the stickers must also be 25cm wide and 50cm long, they must be placed symmetrically each side at the back of the caravan/motorhome between 50cm and 150cm off the ground.

It would also be worthwhile making a quick call to your insurance broker to make sure that you will be fully covered for driving in Spain, and ask them of any conditions that you might need to abide by.
