Cost of Petrol

Postby Tyler » Wed Jan 12, 2011 10:21 am

I've just filled up the car and it cost me 63 Euros - I could have swore that before Xmas it was only 58 Euros. Is it just me or has the cost of petrol shot up recently ? I don't normally notice these things. In my local garage a Litre of '98 unleaded is 1.25 Euros (Marina Alta, Alicante) - I wondered if (and by how much) prices were different in other parts of Spain ?

I have just read on the internet this morning that filling your car up in Spain is an average 14 Euros cheaper than doing it over the border in Portugal, and a lot of Portuguese are regularly driving to Spain just to fill up - so it sounds like they have it much worse over there !

Just got back from Mijas and I noticed that '95 Unleaded was being advertised at 1.31 Euros and '98 at 1.41

Just read the news this morning that current (average) petrol prices are just 0.8 cents under the record highs seen in 2008 - But I bet they'll get there. And guess which European country is set to to bear the brunt of the rising costs of raw materials ...

I drove down through France before christmas and noticed a wide range of prices along the way - moreso that in Spain. It doesn't surprise me to hear that the French and Portuguese are driving over the border into Spain to fill up, I'd be doing the same if a much cheaper station was close to me.

News in yesterday's press that Repsol reported Gross earnings of 1.06 BILLION euros last year - up 41% on the year before ( http://www.tumbit.com/news/articles/284 ... ubles.html ) ... and STILL the prices go up ?

Should we be worried that the Government has just lowered the spped limit on motorways from 120 to 110 kmh, and discounted some railway tickets by 5% in an attempt to reduce Spain's reliance on Fuel ? I wonder if and how this will effect petrol prices ?
