Property Insurance ?

Postby MickeyB » Mon May 07, 2012 8:19 am

Is it a legal requirement that I HAVE TO have insurance for my property in Spain - like it is to have insurance on a car - or is it entirely optional ?

I suppose it depends on what you use your property for ? - Such as whether it is just a place of residence, or whether you let it out for holiday rentals. Also, whether you run a business from it, or if it is accessed by members of the public or not ?

That is a very good question, and whilst I don't know the answer I would imagine that there would be a requirement to do so in the interests of public liability. For example, if a roof tile fell off your property and injured a passer-by ? I imagine that without any kind of insurance you could be sued as the responsible house-owner ?

Why would anyone want to consider NOT insuring their property ?? For an average property in an average area the costs are relatively low compared to the damage that coudl be done and the peace of mind that it brings, surely ??

I couldn't agree more DelBoy, I don't think it's worth leaving to chance.
