Maternity nurse available

Postby janestevens » Tue May 24, 2011 2:28 pm

I am a British, UK trained maternity nurse / postnatal doula, and I offer live-in support to new mothers, regardless of their location.

I've lived in Spain for 6 years, and I work with familes to try and ensure that they make the most of this exciting time. I offer both practical and emotional support, and can help you whether you are breast or bottle feeding, looking for someone to undertake the night feeds, so you can catch up with your sleep, or just want some practical support while you put your feet up a bit and enjoy your bundle of joy!

Hi Jane.
I never knew what a Doula was - let alone that they were available here in Spain - until after I had given birth. The extra help would have been handy given that my other half worked long hours back then and all my friends and family were back in the UK.

What areas do you cover ? - I can find the link to your website on your profile ?

Hi Jo,

Thanks for getting in touch. There was an issue with my link, but it is in place now.

I am very happy to travel to wherever the work takes me, providing I am booked for a minimum of 2 weeks and my travel expenses are covered, so if you know anyone who may be interested in some support, please do pass on my details.

Many thanks,

Jane

Will do Jane.
Just out of interest : Do you have a general 'type' of client who tend to use your service more than anyone else. For example: a proffesional expat couple ; a couple where one partner works away a lot etc... also, how long would your typical assignment last for ?

Hi Jo,

I generally work for between 2 and 4 weeks with clients, and I work 5/6 days a week normally, so that I can catch up on my sleep and the family have a little private time.

Every client is different, and has different ideas about how they want to bring up baby, which I respect. I've worked with single parent and same sex families. Families where Dad is commuting overseas to work each week, and those where Dad is struggling to work from home. Some mothers are looking for support to help them establish breastfeeding, and others want someone to help them bottle feed, without making them feel they have failed in some way. I've supported families who have a very relaxed approach, and feed baby on demand, and others who want me to wake baby every 3 hours round the clock to ensure they get her into a routine asap as Mum needs to get back to work asap.

I like to think that I offer non-judgemental, flexible support to all my families, as every birth, every baby, and every family is different, and I try and respond to individual needs, which have included helping with shopping, dog walking, looking after older siblings, undertaking all the night feeds and cooking simple meals for the family.

My main aim is to try and ensure that the family enjoy a relaxing 'babymoon period' without any undue pressures at this precious time.
