The Spanish Government has proposed that local town halls should be required to publish their financial accounts on the internet – including the salaries of all Mayors and councilors together with all town hall assets.
The proposal is intended to eradicate Town Hall corruption and discussions are already taking place with the Partido Popular, so that it should be implemented during this parliamentary term.
As part of the proposal it is intended that other information, such as details of licences granted for building and other works should also be published, in addition to changes to local planning and the Urban plan.
Sources at the Ministry for Territorial Policy told El País told the Spanish Newspaper that the measures were designed to make any corrupt behaviour more difficult, given the increase in transparency.
