The Spanish opposition leader 'would rub his hands together' if the country were to suffer an economic crisis similar to Greece, says vice secretary general for the reigning socialists, José Blanco.
He critisized Mariano Rajoy, leader of the right-wing PP party, for 'attempting to fuel uncertainty and lack of confidence' in the state of Spain's economy.
Blanco says Rajoy is hoping to get into power by 'riding on the back of the recession', or rather, using it as a tool to secure his seat in office.
“Rajoy's irritation is going to increase as Spain's economy recovers and employment is created,” Blanco commented during a meeting with socialists in Fuenlabrada (Madrid) yesterday.
Spain's next national elections are not until 2012.
Concerning the Greek crisis, minister for the economy Elena Salgado claims Spain is 'ready and prepared' to help bail the country out.
