Yesterday the Spanish Senate voted in favour of speaking all five co-official languages for its debates.
The proposal was put forward by Miguel Bofill, from the Catalan republicans, ERC, and supported by the Socialists. The Partido Popular considers the move, and the consequent increase in costs and procedures as being ridiculous at this time.
The debate gave the new Socialist Senator, Leire Pajín, also the organising secretary of the party, to address the chamber in all five languages, Castellano, Euskera, Catalán, Gallego and Valenciano.
