The total population of Spain grew by 0.4% last year – taking it to 47 million, of which 5.7 million are foreign by birth. The exact number of the population in Spain now stands at 46,951,532.
The current figures from the INE, the National Statistics Institute, report that 12.2% of Spanish residents are now immigrants. There are 5.7 million immigrants registered at their local town halls, of whom 2.3 million are from other EU countries.
