Spansh airport misery continues

Tue 11th May 2010

The authorities have now closed seven Spanish airports due to the clouds of volcanic ash drifting over airspace from Iceland.

AENA - The Spanish National Airport Authority - reports that airports in the Canary Islands of Tenerife, La Palma and La Gomera have been closed since 5 a.m. today, likely to affect dozens of tourist flights. On the mainland, Seville, Jerez and Badajoz were closed at 6 a.m.

The agency states that in all other areas of Spain restrictions will continue for planes flying between 20,000 feet and 35,000 feet, mainly affecting trans-Atlantic flights.

Almost 20 Spanish airports were closed over the weekend due to the same problematic ash cloud.
