Further to Wednesday's statement to congress by Prime Minister Zapatero, and the subsequent announcement by Union leaders on Wednesday night's television, a date for the proposed public sector general strike has now been set.
The Public Services Federation of the UGT has now joined forces with the CCOO and announced plans for a General Strike of all public sector workers on June 2.
Both trade unions are angry at the Government's plans to cut civil servants wages by 5 percent, to stay the same next year and to freeze pensions.
