Expats planning on taking a trip home or a holiday abroad are advised to consider when they wish to travel in order to save money.
Editorial director of travel network Simonseeks.com Nick Trend said expats planning on getting away this summer should avoid the school holidays, if possible, or to travel late August to take advantage of cheaper deals.
A survey published by the website found that 70 per cent of travellers will be looking for discounts of at least 25 per cent on their holiday purchase and they will be paying using either their current account or savings.
With money still tight in the wake of the global financial downturn, half of all travellers said they would be putting aside at least three days to search for the right deal on their trip.
Mr Trend noted that late August is a good time for expatriates and other travellers to visit a European city as cheap deals could be offered to offset the number of people looking to head for a sandy beach around this time.
