The strike held today by public sector workers has so far left the countries airports or air traffic control towers unaffected.
The Airport staff, who are employed by the Ministry of Public Works, were asked to strike today by the CCOO, UGT and USO unions after a 5% cut in their salaries were imposed by the government last month.
The CGT is also supporting the strike and has called for a number of demonstrations to take place in larger airports across Spain during the course of the day.
AENA has not released any details regrading the number of employees on strike, but the unions claim that they have the backing of 80% of civil servants across the board, whereas the government maintains that only 15% of public sector workers have been on strike since midnight when it started.
