Indian shares extended gains to 1 percent on Tuesday afternoon, as a rally across Asia and improved hopes of strong corporate earnings lifted investor confidence.
At 12:20 p.m. (0650 GMT), the 30-share BSE index was up 1 percent at 16,175.87 points its highest level in 15 months and more than double its 2009 low in early March. Twenty stocks gained.
The 50-share NSE index was up 0.9 percent at 4,826.60.
