Value for money 'is important travelling factor'

Wed 23rd Jun 2010

A continuing improvement in the value of the pound could convince more expatriates and casual visitors to travel into the eurozone, according to industry experts.

Sharron Livingston, editor of thetravelmagazine.net, said British people are historically adventurous travellers.

"Ferry travel and cruises have seen an upturn and amazingly, British travellers do not get put off long-term with the adverse conditions recently encountered in the aviation industry" she commented.

While destination is an important part of deciding where to holiday, value for money is also a factor.

"Some destinations like Turkey, Egypt and Spain were always considered to be value for money, which is these days, a very important factor in deciding which holiday to take" Ms Livingston added.

Her comments follow the publication of research by Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks, which revealed that British consumers are cutting back on everyday spending in order to afford a holiday.

Families are now spending an average of £905 on holidays each year, up from £872 in the middle of the recession, the study found.
