Alicante's El Altet airport processed in excess of one million passengers during the month August - it's busiest summer to date.
Overall 1,114,066 passengers were serviced by airport last month on a total of 8,038 flights, with 245 tons of commercial freight being processed.
The figures represent a 0.5% increase in passenger numbers on the same period for 2009, and the busiest 'Summer quarter' since the airport opened. These record passengers figures were reached despite a 1.3% decrease in the number of flights over the month.
Over the year to date, passenger numbers are 6,393,840 - an increase of 3% on the same period last year.
The breakdown of overseas flights for the month of August is as follows : Flights originating from the UK - 481,908 (down 7.9%), Germany 101.080 (up 1.8%), and Holland 41,791 (up 1.7%). Passengers flying internally during August increased 8.2% at 213,268.
