Quality of Expat life 'Is Subjective'

Source: Expatriate Healthcare - Fri 24th Sep 2010

Relocating abroad for a better quality of life will depend on each expat's perception of an improved lifestyle, a property website has said.

Paul Collins, property editor of BuyAssociation, commented on research by uSwitch.com, which revealed that Spain and France boast the best quality of life for expatriates.

He pointed out: "If you're moving to change the lifestyle and improve your lifestyle, it all depends on what you're doing for a living when you get to the country."

However, if some expatriates prefer to live in a country with plenty of sunshine, they are more likely to choose Mediterranean destinations because the climate there is preferable.

Places such as New Zealand, Australia and Canada cater for families who like to be outdoors, so active expatriates will find a good quality of life there.

Mr Collins's comments follow the publication of the NatWest International Personal Banking Quality of Life Report, which revealed that almost nine in ten (89 per cent) expatriates believe they have found a better lifestyle since relocating abroad.
