Spanish parliament passes tough 2011 budget

 

Spain's parliament on Tuesday formally approved the government budget for 2011, which is designed to cut the deficit by more than three percentage points and convince debt markets its public finances are sustainable.

"It is an important tool at an important time which will allow us to fight the crisis in favor of economic growth," Economy Minister Elena Salgado told lawmakers before a vote on the budget bill carried by the government.
