Following the Prime Minsiter's pledge yesterday not to allow any further regions to slip into debt, the Catalan President announced that he intends to slash the regional budget by 10 %.
Catalan Premier Arturo Mas spoke before the Catalan regional parliament to announce his proposed cuts to the budget, but also took the opportunity to blame the previous administration and the central government in Madrid for his reasons behind having to resort to this measure.
"We should all paddle in the same direction," Mas said, going on to ask for cooperation from all political parties.
A 10 % reduction to the regions budget would equate to a 4 billion euros saving on the current 40 billion-euro budget.
