Spain's Ministry of Industry is in the process of establishing a new contact telephone number for roadside and traffic assistance for Spanish drivers.
The new telephone number - which will be 011 - will replace the old nine digit number (900 123 505), and will also offer additional updated information such as traffic and incident reports across the country. The cost for the service will be no more than that of a national call.
The only exception will be in the Basque Country, where responsibilty for roadside assistance falls with the regional government, however the Central Government will administer the service. Once the General Traffic Directorate and the Basque Government have the required infrastructure in place, Spain's telecomms providers will have a period of four months to redirect calls from the old number to the new number.
It is expected that he move will provide an improved service to Spanish drivers.
