Government spending cuts and austerity measures are causing holidaymakers to rethink their travel plans. According to the results of a recent survey commissioned by Lloyds TSB Insurance, house-swapping for holidays purposes is making a comeback as a result of these tough times.
The study reveal how 3.4% of all adults - double the figure for 2010 - have already finalised a house swap for this year. The online study of 2,000 adults in the UK also showed that 15% of house-swappers had chosen Spain for their holiday destination, 15% to Italy, 12% to France and 10% cent to the USA.
It is hoed that this may encourage some visitors or investors to purchase a Spanish property in order to take advantage of the growing trend.
Paul Spillane, head of home claims at Lloyds TSB Insurance, commented: "House-swapping looks set to be the trend of the year - it's easy to see why, as this type of holiday caters for so many different tastes.
"To ensure people make the most of their house-swap holidays, we're urging them to alert their insurers before taking part in an exchange so they don't jeopardise their cover."House swapping for short breaks and holidays of varying periods can be arranged online by a number of reputable agencies who screen and match families to each others requirements.
