Ryanair is seemingly ignoring a recent judgement passed againt it by a Spanish supreme court in Barcelona, that the airline can not charge passengers for failing to print off their boarding pass, which is being appealed by the airline.
The Andalucian Regional Government have complained that the airline is still charging €40 to print boarding passes for passengers who have either forgot, or been unable to do this at home.
Ryanair released a statement simply declaring ‘If payment is not made for the printing of the boarding pass, these passengers will not be allowed to pass through security or to travel'. Futhermore, the airline denies that there any such law that prevents them from making a surcharge for the printing of a boarding pass, and claims that this situation only affects 1% of passengers.
The Regional Government's consumer affairs office described the airlines's surcharge ‘abusive as regulations oblige airlines to issue a ticket to passengers for free, as this document represents the only one which gives a right to transport'. They issued a warning that any airline who charges to print a boarding pass could face a fine of €30,000.
