Spain's Devlopment Minister has announced a new law whereby residential buildings over 40 years old will be required to have a full technical inspection. However, Minister Jose Blanco stated that this obligation will only apply to building in municipalities that have in excess of 25,000 inhabitants.
At the moment it is unclear exactly how these inspections will take place, or who will take responsibility for financing them or who will carry them out.
The Minister stated how new regulations, which are part of the Government's Sustainable Economy Law, will be clarified over coming weeks, and claimed the inspections would involve the cooperation of a number of government agencies. He also mentioned how the inspection certificate would need to be re-issued every fifteen years.
