Spain's Ministry of Industry has recently submitted a report to the Council of Ministries regarding a Draft Telecommunications Bill, which proposes changes to the current General Telecommunications Act.
The new Telecommunications Act would, among other things: require action on number portability requests within 24 hours; increase the powers of the Telecommunications Market Commission; and promote investments and the protection of consumers. The Government announced that the new Telecommunications Act will be approved by June 2011.
Jan McDowell-Edmondson, CEO of Telitec Communications welcomed the news : " We truly believe in quality and service . The New Telecommunication Act hopes to improve this across the board to all end users by firstly decreasing the time scales on portability from one provider to another and secondly putting regulations in place to stop over charging and poor maintenance .
This can only be a good thing for all and only those companies that were not up to scratch in the first place could possibly object ."
