Alicante Airport's new terminal becomes fully operational as of tomorrow.
Even though passenger numbers travelling to and from the UK has fallen considerablly over the past few years, the UK still accounts for the highest volume of traffic travelling through the airport.
The airport is currently the sixth busiest in the whole of Spain and the Islands, and the new terminal will help with an increased demand for flights during the busy easter and summer periods. Traffic grew by 2.7% overall in 2010 after the tourism industry as a whole took a knock in 2009.
For the year to date, passenger numbers were up 3% in January and 3.5% in February, with every indication being that the airport may be on course to beat its previous annual record and could be on track to see 10 million passengers for the first time. Of course, disruption by industrial action by the airport or air traffic control workers could soon put an end to that being achievable.
So far this year, new routes from the UK to Alicante have been announced by Jet2 .
