Spanish Data protection Agency NOT to recognise PIN numbers

Fri 25th Mar 2011

In a recent report, the Spanish Data Protection Agency (SDPA) has ruled that the entering of a credit or debit card PIN number, as a means to authorise a transaction in place of traditional handwritten signatures, does not fall under the scope of the Spanish Data Protection Act.

Many of Spain's banks have now changed their credit and debit cards with PIN-enabled cards which no longer require a user's signature for authentication and authorisation.
