A surcharge of €2 will be added to every ticket Ryanair sells as of Monday, April 4, which the airline reports will go towards costs that it will incurr from the European Union's new passenger compensation legislation - ref : EU261.
The legislation states that compensation should be payable to every airline passenger flying to our from Europe, who faces a delay or cancellation of flights.
The airline claim that they have already had to fund costs of €100m arising from flight cancellations and delays and providing right to care, compensation and legal expenses.
The additional €2 fee will be added to the cost of all tickets, and Ryanair are demanding that the current regulations be changed to ensure that the airlines are not liable for providing care and compensation in cases where the cancellations or delays are not the responsibility or fault of the airlines.
