The constitutional court of Spain has reversed a judgement made by the Supreme Court that bans a Basque coalition political party from standing in the coming local elections. The initial judgement was made on the grounds that some of its candidates have been linked to the outlawed political wing of the armed separatist group ETA.
The Basque party, Bildu, appealed to the highest court in the country, where a vote of 6 to 5 in favour, now allows them to take part in the local elections later this month.
The decision was announced late last night following a lengthy court session, however, no reason has yet been given for the decision in reversing the initial judgement made by the Supreme Court earlier this week.
