Spanish banks borrowed 44 billion euros from the European Central Bank in April, Bank of Spain data showed on Friday, unchanged from the amount taken in March.
Many banks were shut out of capital markets in 2010, but have returned this year as bank restructuring efforts and an improving economic outlook helped investor confidence. In July last year Spain banks' borrowing from the ECB hit a record high of 140 billion euros.
