The right-wing opposition looks on course to take a resounding victory in Spain's regional elections on May 22, according to the results of a recent poll released yesterday by Metroscopia.
The Governing Socialist PSOE have seen much support slip away over recent months, which could be a sign of the way things look likely to go in the national elections, due to be held next year.
Results of the survey revealed how Socialist strongholds such as Seville and the central region of Castilla-La Mancha look likely to favour the Popular Party (PP), undermining the minority government as it faces the end of it's second term.
Zapatero's Government has been faced with the unenviable task of attempting to put the country back on course with a number of austerity measures following the worst recession seen by the country in over 50 years.
The PM has already made his intentions public that he will not stand in next year's elections.
The survey predicts how the PSOE looks likely to lose Barcelona for the first time in 32 years, with the popular Catalonian party CiU taking power.
The PP are expected to take Castilla-La Mancha by a margin of one seat following seven consecutive terms of office by the PSOE.
