A recent survey undertaken by Moneywise.co.uk, which questioned 12'000 UK residents, has concluded that Spain's Banco Santander is the UK's worst financial services company for the second year running.
Three Banks came in the 'top 20', however, Santander made up a total of 40% of all comments made.
The Bank clearly has a much better reputation here in Spain, where certain other Spanish multi-nationals attract a greater degree of criticism.
Financial advisor and Industry blogger, David Goodall , explains: "In the UK the original takeover of Abbey in 2004, seemed to go quite well. Santander's poor reputation for customer service has come since taking over Bradford & Bingley, Alliance & Leicester and some branches of the RBS. Their strategy was too ambitious in too short a time period, and as a result Santander need to put more into servicing the customer and be more professional."
Being established in Spain for over 150 years, the Bank hasn't had to suffer the consequences of 'too much growth too soon'. Goodall comntinues, "For many, Telefonica in stands out as the poorest company in Spain for customer service. Fortunately it is now relatively easy to transfer to other customer service focused companies. On the whole small businesses in Spain deliver good service, its the monopolies that need the shake up and to take note."
