In December of last year Spain's Supreme Court ruled that Castilian must have equality with Catalan in the region's schools. The Supreme Court supported three families who appealed for the national language to be taught in Cataluña's schools, however the families report that the regional government have failed to act with the ruling made by the court.
The families spoke with the Spanish press yesterday to say how the Generalitat did not meet the deadline of adapting its education system in line with the court's ruling, in allowing equal representation of Castilian and Catalan, by April 23rd.
An association of almost 500 families has come out in support of the families, and will be writing to the regional government's councillor for education, after the May 22 elections to demand that the government observes the ruling.
