Following the weekend's recent icelandic volcano eruptions, a number of airlines have already started to take action in cancelling or re-scheduling a number of flights in and around Scottish airspace. Others are advising that passengers who are due to fly over the course of the next few days should check for updates regularly for any cancelations or delays.
The Met Office has predicted that the ash will reach Scottish airspace today and as a result the National Air Traffic Services and the Civil Aviation Authority are monitoring the situation closely.
Spain's Barcelona Football team, who are due to play in the final of the champions league against Manchester united at Wembley this weekend, are expected to make the decision later today to begin the journey to london by coach, or to wait and hope that airspace remains unaffected, or at least clears by Saturday.
In a cruel coincidence, Barcelona got through to the semi-finals in Italy last year against Milan, only for the 2010 Icelandic eruption to close much of European airspace. This resulted in a lengthy coach trip for the players across France and into Italy, where they eventually lost the game 3-1.
