Following attempts by America to close down the online gambling industry, many European nations are seemingly doing the opposite in opening up a market that was previously very restricted and closely regulated. Spain is no exeption to this, and has just issued its first license to Casino Gran Madrid, the country's largest on-shore casino business.
The licence was issued last week to allow the provision of online casino and poker games, to residents of the region of Madrid. Lawyers approved a new online gaming law earlier this year, which will go into effect later this summer. When that law goes into effect the Casino Gran Madrid site will be available to the country as a whole.
The new site is being developed by Playtech, who specialise in online gaming software, and have worked on the project pending the country's reform of existing online gaming laws. Testing on the site will begin over the next few weeks and, if it goes to plan, could be online for players later this summer. The site will have safeguards to prevent players under the age of eighteen from playing aswell as those who have been banned from the companies 'non-virtual' casinos.
