A reported 18 people were injured yesterday when after a confrontation with the police, whilst demonstrating outside the regional government buildings in the centre of Valencia. The protests were against political corruption within the government and came as the new administration were about to take office.
Police sources the officers were apparently trying to isolate a small group of protestors who it claims were intent on attacking police officers. Representatives of 'Los Indignados', the protest group who has assumed responsibility for coordinating anti-government demonstrations across spain, claims that no acts of violence has been committed by its followers or supporters and that the offenders were anarchists intent on causing trouble.
Just two weeks ago around 100 people were injured after the police tried to disperse protesters in Barcelona to end two weeks of demonstrations in the Plaza de Cataunya. Police were trying to dismantle the camp to allow cleaners to enter the square, however, the protestors refused to move, claiming that they were being evicted.
