If a referendum in Catalunya was to be held today, 43% would vote in favor of independence, the Catalan government reported on Wednesday.
The poll, commissioned by the CiU led administration gave 28.2% in favor of keeping to the current situation, with 23.3% abstaining. The remainder were still undecided.
The survey, which questioned 2,500 people by telephone, was conducted by the Center for Opinion Studies (CEO), which conducts surveys among Catalan residents every quarter. Since the CiU party were voted into office last year the issue of independance has been made a priority.
Even though the results revealed an increase of those in favor independence, there are many more who support the continuation of being part of Spain.
