Malaga 'can be explored on foot'

Source: Expatriate Healthcare - Thu 7th Jul 2011

Holidaymakers who wish to visit Spain, but who are lacking a car may wish to travel to Malaga, as the city can be fully explored on foot.

Antonio Montejo Romero, spokesman for Malaga City Tourist Board and Convention Bureau, said it is only "a maximum of ten minutes walking" to go from one landmark to another.

He explained that a large portion of the city centre is pedestrianised, including around 90 per cent of the historic old town.

Although people consider it a "sand and beach destination", it contains 23 different museums, including the Picasso Museum, which Mr Romero asserted houses "the most important private collection around the world at the moment".

Further to this is the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, containing 400 19th-century paintings from Spain that have never been viewed by the public.

Alongside these are five botanical areas, one of which - the Finca de la Concepcion - is Europe's second-biggest tropical garden.

This follows research from travelsupermarket.com that revealed Spain was the most popular package holiday search throughout June 2011.
