Earlier this year Ryanair complained to AENA about the charges forced on them for using air bridges at Alicante airport's new Terminal. Ryanair insisted that the air bridges were not required and that they were not allowed to let passengers disembark on foot for safety reason.
Ryanair insisted that if the air bridge rule was not lifted, ticket prices would need to be increased to cover the cost, and had threatened to scale back operations at the base.
Both parties agreed to hold a number of safety tests at the airport in order to ascertain whether it was safe for passengers to disembark by foot at the airport, which took place at the end of May, the findings of which were reported by EFE yesterday.
The authorities at Alicante Airport maintained how the increased volume of air traffic during the summer months makes it dangerous to allow disembarking on foot, and could only allow this to happened during the winter months.
The tests also revealed how it results in a quicker turn-around time for flights when embarking and disembarking by foot.
