Brits abroad continue to be the worst offenders when it comes to getting into touble abroad, however, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office have released a detailed report showing how the number has fallen by 10% over the last year.
Drug-related arrests in particular have fallen by 20%.
However, the FCO were still involved in 5,700 cases of Britons being arrested during 2010 - with Spain and US showing the highest figures.
The number of Brits hospitalised abroad last year grew to 3,752 admissions, despite fewer people from the UK travelling abroad last year, with Spain alone seeing 1'024 cases.
The FCO also repeated their previous warning that over 15% of Britons travel abroad without adequate insurance, and is urging people to take out a comprehensive policy before they go away this summer.
The UK's Europe minister David Lidington commented : "People are mistaken if they think the Foreign Office can get you out of jail. We can't, but we will work hard to try and ensure your safety, and that you get a fair trial."
