Following Wednesday's protests on the streets of the capital, further action was taken last night.
This time, however, the protestors were more numerous to coincide with the Pope's arrival in Madrid earlier in the day.
Catholic Priests mixed with the general public to demonstrate against the Pope's visit to Spain, which has been estimated to cost the country between 60 - 100 million euros.
As many as 150 different groups were thought to be taking part in the protests, representing the M15 group, angry about the cost of thr trip, to secularists and gay rights activists.
Earlier this week, 120 Spanish Catholic Priests signed a petition criticising the visit on the grounds of the cost of the event, which comes at a time when the country can do without the expenditure.
Yesterday a Spanish Judge ordered the release of the Mexican World Youth Day Volunteer who has been accused of plotting to mount a chemical attack on those who opposing the pope's visit. The investigation continues.
