Yesterday Telefónica announced that it would be restructuring its operations to allow for the development of its online business and to improve efficiency and manage costs.
Telefónica, who operate globally and are Europe's second-largest telecom operator behind Vodafone, said it will create a new division, Telefónica Digital, to manage it's online operations.
The popular Spanish social networking site Tuenti, Internet telephony provider Jajah, Internet portal Terra and other businesses will all be serviced under the new arrangement.
The creation of the new unit will result in some 2'500 employees being relocated from Madrid to London.
The new digital / online direction of the Business is seen as a continuation of the Telefonica's takeover of O2 in 2006, and will support new services centred around digital advertising, entertainment, financial services and cloud computing.
